In dentistry as in all other
professions and life circumstances finding a mentor is one of the most
important steps to success. It
seems fitting that I write about mentorship before this Father’s Day weekend as
Dr. James and I share our greatest mentor who has the responsibility of life
and professional mentor.

Our father- Dr. John Mashni- is not our only mentor, plenty of others have helped us along the way, but he is the constant voice in our head as we treat our patients and go through our day- “What’s best for the patient?” He is a constant reminder of "if you love your job you’ll never work a day of your life." Many of you see the compassionate hard working dentist that he has become but you may not know of his humble beginnings frying donuts at Dunking Donuts or stocking shelves at the grocery store to get through school. My personal favorite job is after his first year of dental school my father came back to Michigan and bought a truck and set up an ice cream truck- driving around and selling sugary treats to children.
There is little doubt my father got
his work ethic from his father.
Our grandfather brought his family to the United States leaving a great
profession behind to come and work two jobs to support his family of seven
boys. As I see the sacrifice of
those before me I can only realize the blessings given to me and strive to live up to the standards set.

As a dentist and business owner our
father instills in our team and ourselves the importance of trust and a relationship. We always come back to the purpose of
our profession and finding our own individual motivations, strengths and
weaknesses. He is a constant
reminder that we should never stop learning and growing. As a father he instills his standards
of excellence and care through treating each individual as a child of God.
Not many are fortunate enough to
have this type of relationship with their father. Many would wonder how working so close with family members
ever works out. I value this
arrangement simply because of the value of family instilled in us. We see our patients as family, we see
our team members as family, and of course- all the doctors are family.
We are glad to have you in our
family, and if you are not- we welcome you to come join us!
