Why do we think your smile is so important?
If you have been to our office you know we value your oral
and overall health. We will be
exploring some of the health implications of diseases of the mouth in other
blogs. But there are other reasons why we think your smile is important!
Today I’d like to draw attention to the ACT of smiling and
its benefits.
Smiling gives you super powers! If you have time watch this TED talk about the hidden power
of smiling- otherwise you just read the bullet points from the talk (all supported by research).
- The span of a baseball’s players smile in their trading cards predicted their lifespan.
- The presence or absence of a smile in high school yearbook photos predicted success or failure.
- The ACT of smiling stimulates brain responses that improves mood.
- Even chocolate doesn’t compare- 1 smile equals up to 2000 bars of chocolate! (without all the calories!)
- Smiling helps reduce levels of stress enhancing cortisol, adrenaline, and dopamine and increases levels of endorphins along with reducing overall blood pressure.
- Smiling makes you look better and more competent in the eyes of others.
- Smiling is as stimulating as receiving $25,000 in cash!
We want you to be comfortable in your smile. We believe that means having both a
healthy mouth and a smile you are proud to show off. You can give yourself the gift of a beautiful smile. We would love to help you love your smile!
